i dont think it will work..
drilling holes on the tubular stand will weakened the structure plus it will be a good start for rust to munch on your stand..

making a cabinet out of the metal stand is very much possible it has been done before but dont do anything on the metal stand.. just wrap wood around it..

you need to tumble up and down the steel stand in order to work easily...I have made my steel stand into a cabinet.no holes and drillings were made!

All of my tank stands are made up of steel frames, 3inches angle bar ginamit ko, nagawa kung gawing cabinet with steel frames yung mga stands ko dito without driling a single hole on them.

Its not a good idea if you drill holes on the steel frame. It will just weakend the material's tensile strength. IMHO

Depends on how good your carpenter is. Its hard to explain here, just to give you an idea, simple lang naman ginawa ko dito.parang binalot ko lang yung frames, its just like putting clothes on the body, make sure that they properly fit.
